RENEW & BUILD OUR CONSTITUENCY
Mical, Bahamas - The economies of the out Islands of the Bahamas are in a dire state of dilapidation, in particular the southern Bahamas. The capital cities of Mayaguna, Inagua, Crooked Island, Acklins and Long Cay (MICAL) are almost deserted, if not already. Today it’s High Schools are completely in a state of disrepair if not destroyed, primary schools have deteriorated. Public docks are completely wiped out, clinics are outdated, airports are two and three-bedroom shacks, administrators and post offices are poorly maintained.
These potential cities consisted of a few commercial buildings, now abandoned and boarded up. Perhaps if 250 houses still stood 70 of them are still inhabited, vacant lots with bits of foundations showing indication that these cities had once been much larger. Now these capital cities hardly have services, scares businesses, and no future for the few remaining residents.
In restoring our economy, supporting our businesses and industries, there is an opportunity to redirect our efforts towards a sustainable future. We can play to our strengths and in doing so, enjoy the tremendous competitive advantages afforded to us. To the people of MICAL there is a path forward, I have an unrivaled but an ambitious 20-year plan (the Path Forward) that will take us beyond our reliance on subsistence farming and fishing.
As your next member of parliament, I will lobby to have government radically overhaul the Financial, Social welfare, Education, Immigration, Manufacturing and the local government systems to make it a more flexible and equitable system. I will also seek to protect the most vulnerable in the face of harsh economic circumstances and enhance our investment in the socioeconomic development and wealth of our constituency; our communities and most importantly our people.
In the next general elections, we as a people have a once in a lifetime chance to change this country for the better. Join me in Renewing and Rebuilding the Great Constituency of MICAL for all.
