NASSAU, BAHAMAS: Bahamasair, the national flag carrier, announced on Monday that it has placed baggage restrictions on flights to the southern Bahamas, beginning April 14, 2019.

In a statement released yesterday, Bahamasair said as a result of its weight and balance restrictions on its ATR aircraft, the airline has been challenged in its efforts to facilitate the movement of additional bags to a number of its destinations in the southern Bahamas.

“This has adversely affected our ability to fully service passengers for scheduled flights on a regular basis, which has from time-to-time led to disruptions and inconvenience.

“This has adversely affected our ability to fully service passengers for scheduled flights on a regular basis, which has from time-to-time led to disruptions and inconvenience,” the airline said. “In trying to improve our quality of care to the travelling public, we wish to advise of the following adjustments which will go into effect April 14, 2019.”

Bahamasair said this move will impact passengers travelling to:  Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Island, Mayaguana and Inagua.

These passengers, Bahamasair said, will be limited to one checked piece of luggage with a maximum weight of 50 lbs and one personal item (handbag) or a carry-on piece no more than 18 lbs; which is not inclusive of a hand bag.

Bahamasair said there will be no exceptions. “We wish to thank the traveling public for their continued support as we strive to be the airline of choice connecting the islands of The Bahamas to the world,” the Bahamasair statement concluded.
