Updated: May 21, 2020

FAMILY ISLANDS TO REOPEN FOR BUSINESS BY ZONES.

New Providence, Bahamas - The Southern Family Islands are set to reopen for business on Monday says Prime Minister Hon Hubert Minnis in a televised national address to the nation.

Originally, the reopening of various Family Islands was set to begin in Phase 2, but he said his government has decided to gradually reopen the Family Islands by zone, starting on Monday in the Southern Bahamas.

MICAL will resume normal commercial activity along with Ragged Island, and Rum Cay. The Residence of MICAL was admonished to maintain physical distancing and other safety protocols.

The prime minister upheld that border restrictions remain except for emergency and other circumstances that must be approved by the Civil Aviation Authority.

However, the Prime Minister explained that residents of New Providence who are currently in the southern islands will be allowed to return to New Providence. Curfew and lockdown measures will remain in effect for all Family Islands, including the zones that have returned to normal commercial activity.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that other islands will be allowed to resume commercial activity at the appropriate time, using guidelines provided by health officials.
